Plasma Cutting Comparison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Plasma (arc) cutting<\/strong> emerged in 1950, due to the need to cut metals that could not be cut with a torch, such as stainless steel, aluminum, and copper.<br \/>\nThe plasma cutting process uses electrically conductive gas; plasma gases include argon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and mixtures, in addition to air and oxygen.<br \/>\nPlasma cutting can cut any type of metallic material, being especially suitable for steel. Plasma cutting allows for high definition and cutting quality. <\/p>\n<p>In 1965, the first <strong>laser cutting<\/strong> machine was used to drill holes in diamond dies. Today, laser cutting has many applications and can be used with many different materials. Its applications range from cutting, welding, heat treatment, coating, vapor deposition, etc.<\/p>\n<h4><strong> Differences between laser cutting and plasma cutting<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Laser cutting<\/strong> is a digital production technique that is fast and far superior to other systems in terms of performance and productivity.<br \/>\nThe <strong>plasma arc cutting<\/strong> process uses electrically conductive gas to transfer energy from an electrical power source through a plasma cutting torch. <\/p>\n<p>L<strong>aser cutting<\/strong> produces clean cuts that do not leave many burrs and has an excellent finish. This technique also allows for the cutting of very narrow, small parts or the creation of very small holes, thanks to its high precision.<br \/>\nThe quality of laser cutting is optimal in thicknesses around 15-20mm. For greater thicknesses, the cutting quality decreases significantly.<br \/>\nThe <strong>plasma cutting<\/strong> allows for high definition and cutting quality, guaranteeing high-precision finishes. <\/p>\n<p>One of the differences between laser cutting and plasma cutting lies in the initial investment and operating costs, which are higher in the case of laser cutting since the cost of laser cutting equipment is very high compared to other material cutting technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Another difference to highlight is that with plasma cutting, all types of <strong>metallic materials<\/strong> can be cut, which is not the case with laser cutting, which cannot cut <strong>excessively reflective metals<\/strong>.<br \/>\nOn the other hand, plasma cutting only cuts metallic materials, and laser cutting can also be used to cut other non-metallic materials such as plastics, glass, and wood.<\/p>\n<p>Neither of these two cutting processes is capable of cutting <strong>3D materials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Laser cutting has many more applications than plasma cutting, which is only used for cutting. In contrast, laser cutting can be used in cutting, drilling, engraving, ablation, structuring, and welding processes.<\/p>\n<p>There are different metal cutting processes on the market.
